Holiday Insurance - Can You Afford To Be Without It?
Tourism is often viewed as one of the more volatile industries as it can be affected in so many different ways yet we all risk our hard earned each year when we book that trip. There are those however, that believe they are perfectly capable of dealing with any problems they may encounter whilst on vacation so do not purchase travel insurance no matter what.
Travel insurance is relatively inexpensive as the cost is typically about five to ten percent of the total outlay for the trip as there are literally hundreds of things that can go wrong on a vacation, from a canceled flight to a serious illness. You could fall ill just before you are due to travel, or someone in your family but this could just as easily happen when you are on vacation, but whatever the situation you will be out of pocket.
Sometimes circumstances outside of your control can prevent you from vacationing and last minute cancellations usually incur one hundred percent of the vacation charge. Although, if you have taken out travel insurance you will find that this type of situation would not leave you out of pocket no would you or your family be if you or they needed emergency cash, replace credit cards or medical treatment to name only a few situations.
When you have booked an expensive trip and paid the deposit and then something happens that prevents you from traveling, you run the risk of losing everything you have paid to date but this situation can be avoided. Any good travel insurance plan should ensure you are covered for vacation and trip cancellation in which case any money that has been paid towards the trip can be claimed back.
This type of cover also allows for the vacation being interrupted for any reason and will refund the traveler for payments he has made towards the trip. Good travel insurance plans will include acts of terrorism both in the United States and other countries, but not all do this.
The cost of travel insurance is based on the value of the trip which normally works out between 5 and 10 percent, based on the age of the traveler. If the airline, cruise line or tour operations file for bankruptcy then almost all travel insurance policies include financial default coverage if the program is purchased within 15 days of making the initial trip deposit.
Always check for duplicate coverage as there are a few types of insurance related to travel that you may not need because you are covered from other sources which could include your health insurance, life insurance or even your car insurance policy, may have limited coverage. There is nothing strange in this situation but is surprising just how many people do not even check their insurance plans to see what they are insured for. Be sure to check the fine print for hidden limitations on these existing policies and after researching your current polices, it may seem you are already covered on the surface, but the fine print could limit certain conditions, circumstances, situations or locations.
