Motor Home Choices: Take a Closer Look Inside

You are pre-approved for your motor home loan and you are ready to start shopping. You have looked around at dealers and on the internet, so you know what is available to you as far as features, but you want to know more specifics. When you are at a dealership, looking at a new or a used motor home, you will need to look very carefully at all aspects of the RV so that you can be perfectly comfortable operating it out on the road. Take along a pencil and paper to write down instructions and details for later reference.

The first place that you will really need to become familiar with in the motor home is the cockpit. Sit down. Do you like the position of the seat? Is it fully adjustable? Can you see and reach all of the necessary controls in the RV? Can you reach the gas and brake pedals? Are they adjustable as well? How easy is the steering wheel in the motor home to maneuver? Do you know where the wiper blade controls are? How about the lights? Anyone who will be driving the motor home should be familiar with all of the controls. Ask the sales person if you have any questions and have them show you what you need to know.

A test drive will give you an even better idea of what the motor home is like. You can hear how it sounds and find out how it handles. This is especially important with a used RV. Drive on surface streets as well as freeways to test its handling around corners and curves and when you drive next to other large vehicles.

Take a look at the rest of the interior such as the appliances, the windows, the blinds, the doors, drawers and electrical panel as well as the plumbing system. You should know where everything is and how to operate it before you head out for the first time. Make sure that you have an owners manual before you leave the dealership with your new RV.
