Oberto is Spurs New Center
Fabricio Oberto, the Argentine player for San Antonio Spurs, has developed to perfectly complement the All Star power forward Tim Duncan in role as the new center. Oberto has been on the receiving end as his game has been described as anything but pretty.
Francisco Elson and Oberto were in reckoning for the starting job after the Spurs traded Rasho Nesterovic to Toronto Raptors and let Nazr Mohammed go as a free agent to the Detroit Pistons.
Coach Gregg Popovich has said that Oberto looks like a bull in a china shop when he is playing but he is the most productive player he has ever been around. Duncan is one of the best low post players on the NBA circuit and Oberto does an excellent job staying out of his way. When Duncan in outside, Oberto moves inside and when he is inside, Oberto moves outside. Oberto feels as Duncan and he are getting to know more about how each plays as the games progress. Duncan has commented that Oberto is extremely easy to play with. Oberto is know to have strong fundamental of playing the games and very rarely is he seen out of position.
However, Oberto did have problems adjusting to the NBA last season as a 30 year old rookie. He played only 8.3 minutes an outing in the 59 games. He averaged 1.7 points and 2.1 rebounds. He was found to be looking lost is most of the games. However, this season, things are different. He is playing 23.6 minutes per game and averaging 9.2 points and 6.6 rebounds.
