What Sets Chinese Tea Apart from the Rest?

With so many wonderful teas that are part of the rich cultures of so many different places around the world, why is it that Chinese tea in its various forms seems to hold a particular interest for many of us? There are actually a couple of reasons why tea from China strikes most of us as being one of the more important teas of the world.

Tea in China has a long and distinguished role as being important in the treatment of bodily ailments. Chinese medicine has much to do with attempting to maintain a proper balance in ones body and mind. The use of those herbs and other elements provided by nature are understood to play a role in maintaining that balance and also helping to restore it when something indicates that balance has been impacted. For this reason, there are many different type of teas in China that came about simply as part of the medical treatment for emotional and physical ailments. There are teas to aid in digestion, teas to calm the nerves of persons going through a life change, teas to help with menopause, menstrual periods, male complaints, even headaches and the common cold. Any emotional or physical ailment that one can imagine will have a Chinese tea that is meant to help the individual deal with the condition.

Of course, the other side of the coin is that many of the teas from China have a desirable taste that brings people back over and over again. The durability of the teas on the open market into places that thought nothing of the purported health benefits clearly indicate that there are people around the world who will enjoy Chinese tea simply for the diversity and richness of their flavors. Of course, many of us are also beginning to give an ear to the health benefits, so we can expect to see the popularity of Chinese teas to grow even more within the next decade or so.
